The project looks at how to balance the needs of security against the rights of the individual and how attitudes to privacy and democracy interact with security measures and technologies in an environment of global uncertainties. Controversial surveillance leaks questioning the legitimacy, jurisdiction and ethical agency of leading democratic states internationally; the critical emergence of new sociopolitical formations in cyberspace; the hybrid media environment in diverse geopolitical settings, all point to the need to debate around these critical issues.
